Job overview:

We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Senior Engineer - Control Centre. In this role, you will be responsible for monitoring and controlling the interconnected 400 kV grid voltage, frequency, and power flows, ensuring that all operations are compliant with GCCIA regulations. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in grid operations and SCADA systems, with a strong understanding of power system dynamics and emergency outage management.

Key responsibilities:

  • Monitor and control 400 kV grid voltage, frequency, and power flows to ensure compliance with operational regulations and guidelines.
  • Coordinate with member states to manage generation reserves, including spinning and non-spinning reserves, ensuring adherence to agreed allocations.
  • Ensure that power trading activities are aligned with schedules and regulatory requirements.
  • Analyze alarms and define remedial actions, escalating issues to the Shift In Charge Control Engineer when necessary.
  • Consolidate data, generate transmission reports, and present findings to the Shift In Charge Control Engineer.
  • Ensure 100% compliance with agreed operational policies, procedures, and safety standards.
  • Oversee system outages and coordinate between internal and external stakeholders to implement the correct procedures.
  • Monitor and control the operation of the interconnected system via SCADA computer during normal operating conditions.
  • Utilize advanced monitoring and control systems such as WAMS, DFR, SCADA, and CCTV to ensure smooth operation of the power grid.
  • Implement and review switching programs for routine and emergency operations, in coordination with the Shift In Charge Control Engineer.
  • Issue and cancel safety documents for transmission equipment and maintain accurate records.
  • Prepare daily power system reports and maintain a detailed log of all events within the assigned functional area.
  • Work in close conjunction with and under direction of the Power Shift In Charge Control Engineer
  • Review and implement step-by-step switching programs for the switching operations.

Education:

Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, Power Systems.

Master’s degree is a plus.

Skills Description

  • Strong knowledge of SCADA, WAMS, and DFR systems, as well as power grid dynamics.
  • Proven experience in coordinating with multiple stakeholders, including external agencies and trading departments.
  • Excellent analytical skills with the ability to handle emergencies and perform under pressure.
  • Strong communication and report-writing skills.
  • Familiarity with safety and compliance standards in the power industry.
  • Ability to work in a shift-based schedule, including nights and weekends.
