Senior Engineer - Operational Studies

Job overview:

We are looking for a Senior Engineer - Operational Studies to join our team. The role involves conducting detailed studies and analyses to support the planning, stability, and optimization of the combined GCC power system. The candidate will play a crucial part in ensuring grid reliability, assessing the impact of critical outages, and optimizing power exchange across the interconnector.

Key responsibilities:

• Regularly update and validate the Network Model for Operational Studies including RES models.
• Perform load flow, short circuit, transient, and dynamic stability assessment studies.
• Analyze the performance of the system, including HVDC operations during disturbances and critical events.
• Conduct operational planning studies to ensure the stability and security of the combined system through effective short and medium-term planning.
• Evaluate the impact of critical outages and determine the required availability and reserves.
• Analyze power exchanges and assess the system’s dynamic and protection responses.
• Conduct post-incident analysis, including simulations, and recommend actions to avoid future incidents.
• Calculate net transfer capacities (NTC) through comprehensive system studies.
• Review and provide feedback on new project Scope of Work, Technical Specifications, and study results.
• Assist in preparing Summer & Winter reports, contingency plans, and operational guidelines.
• Analyze historical data and real-time inputs to assess the impact of RES intermittency on grid stability and performance.
• Identify and evaluate risks associated with RES intermittency and develop mitigation strategies.
  

Education:

• Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, Power Systems, or a related field a master’s degree is a plus.
• Professional certifications (e.g., PE, CEng) are advantageous.
  

• Deep knowledge of power system studies and grid operations.
• Proven expertise in operational planning studies, load flow analysis, stability assessments, and outage impact analysis.
• Strong understanding of HVDC systems, dynamic stability, protection systems, and power exchange assessments.
• Proficiency in PSS/E to perform all kind of studies including advanced studies such as dynamic studies.
• Excellent analytical skills with experience in modeling, network optimization, and post-incident analysis.
• Ability to generate comprehensive technical reports and provide well-structured feedback.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Proficiency in using power system analysis software.
• Excellent technical report writing and documentation skills.
• Collaborative mindset with the ability to work across teams and organizations.
• Familiarity with regulatory standards and industry practices.
